Carved Coconut Shells: Balinese craft from Indonesia Export

We’ve been admiring Carved Coconut Shells for years but never found a way to put them in our catalogue.

Here’s why:

They come from the Tampak Siring area — about half an hour from our usual production areas.

The people who make them aren’t exactly tech savvy and until pretty recently, you couldn’t reach them by phone, fax or pigeon.

Pricing is madly disorganised — ranging from US$5.00 to US$15.00 depending on the complexity of the carving / motif.

Sizing varies from around 12cm to 16cm … depends on the coconut!

They take ages to make — an order of 100 pieces could easily take 5 weeks.

They’re fragile — the bloody things are always rolling off tables and breaking or under your feet.

They’re out of fashion.

And we love them.

Bali Driftwood Lamp

I found out yesterday that our driftwood products category was broken in the catalogue and have now fixed the pictures and put everything back together.

Sorry to everyone who got annoyed about that but if you have missed the category or had a quick look and then threw your hands up in despair when you could only see thumbnails, you’re now welcome to return and check out the big pictures…
